Write-For-Rights to celebrate Global Human Rights Day

Every year, around Human Rights Day on 10 December, hundreds of thousands of people around the world send a message to someone they've never met. Letter writing has always been at the core of Amnesty's work, and 53 years of human rights activism show that letters really do have the power to change lives.

Our Annual Amnesty OB Planning Meeting will be February 12th

We will plan our 2017 activities during this potluck meeting.

Note: this meeting won't be at Coastal Sage Gardening ... it'll be at at Jeff & Suzanne' place. Please e-mail our coordinator if you want to participate.

We marched in the (RAINY!) 2015 Pride Parade

On Saturday, July 18th, we marched with Amnesty chapter 137 in support of LGBT rights in the 2015 Pride Parade.

None of us were prepared for the flooded streets and the electrical storm, but the human energy level was just as high. (Photos to follow, soon.)

By highlighting instances of abuse against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals, Amnesty's activists work to protect the basic dignity of LGBT people.

Demonstration to support Pharmacists Opposed to Participation in Executions

Amnesty International is committed to ending the death penalty, in the US and internationally.

On Saturday, March 28th from 4:30-5:30PM, we marched to support an organization called POPE in their demonstration in front of the San Diego Convention Center.

Two Perspectives on the Death Penalty

A presentation at the Point Loma Public Library

Saturday, April 10th from 1:00-2:30 PM

With the recent tragic murders of teenagers Amber Dubois and Chelsea King have come widespread calls for execution of the perpetrator. Will one more violent act bring healing to our community, or to the Dubois and King families?

Two men whose lives were forever impacted by issues surrounding the death penalty are Aqeela Sherrills and Tim Atkins. Sherrills' 18 year old son was murdered in 2002, forcing him to confront the question of capital punishment vs. the alternatives. Atkins, who was convicted of robbery and murder, was serving a life sentence when irrefutable evidence surfaced to prove his innocence which subsequently lead to his exoneration and release.

These men will tell their moving stories and answer questions at a public forum:

        Point Loma Public Library
        3701 Voltaire Ave.
        San Diego, CA   92107
